General Maintenance position at the Montgomery Zoo
The fundamental reason this position exists is to aid in maintaining, repair, and general upkeep of the Montgomery Zoo, Mann Museum, and everything within and on Zoo grounds. Essential functions of this position may include, but not limited to: landscaping and grounds maintenance, building and attractions maintenance and repair, painting, event set-up and tear-down, removal of trash and debris, operating and attending rides and attractions, and aiding other departments as needed. Maintenance staff receive direct supervision from the Zoo’s Operations and Construction Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. Qualifying education, training, certification, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special requirements
Must be able to tolerate working under difficult conditions to include extreme heat and cold and deadlines as needed maintain grounds, buildings, and for events. Must be able to stoop, climb, walk, run and crawl. Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing upwards of 60 pounds unassisted. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and an insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles to pick up various produce and food items. Candidates will be subject to a medical exam following a conditional job offer.

Recreation Aide
Recreation Aide position at the Montgomery Zoo
The fundamental reason this position exists is to aid in assisting at the Zoo’s Admissions Gate, Gift Shop, Mann Museum, Zoo Services, and special events. Essential functions of this position may include, but not limited to: welcoming and greeting guests, selling admission and attraction tickets, basic retail (selling of items in gift shops), checking-in guests and members, stocking and pricing gift shop merchandise, cleaning and retail set-up, selling memberships, cleaning and keeping the overall appearance of the front gate, museum, and gift shops, and aiding other departments as needed. Recreation Aide staff receive direct supervision from the Zoo’s Admission/Gift Shop Manager, Museum Attendant II, and Program Services Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. Qualifying education, training, certification, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special requirements
Must be able to be flexible working in various locations in the Zoo, able to clearly communicate to guests and fellow employees, able to stand for multiple hours at a time, able to learn to operate a POS system, count change (money) and make deposits, etc. Must be able to lift heavy objects weighing upwards of 30 pounds unassisted. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and an insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles to pick up various produce and food items. Candidates will be subject to a medical exam following a conditional job offer.
